DATE: Georgian, c.1800

An enchanting Georgian cluster ring, circa 1800, set with a cushion shaped halo of glistening rose cut diamonds arranged around a central blue sapphire. The shank is delicately engraved all around, with scrolled split shoulders sweeping around little trio clusters of diamonds. The diamonds on the head are set in silver "pie crust" settings, and the vibrant blue sapphire secured in yellow gold - all stones set over foil to enhance their brilliance. A charming example of the style, always miraculous when such tiny and intricate pieces of art survive the centuries more-or-less unscathed.
